In this municipality an important sector of the working population is dedicated to grape cultivation, that together with others in the Acentejo district, produce one of the best red wines of the island, followed by the fruits, vegetables and flowers for export, as well as medicinal herbs. They manage their own businesses, including the wine cellars.
